Plot of My Heart's Offside
Delaney De Vere has spent most of her life far away from normal high school life. She was homeschooled, had few friends, and never had the chance to experience parties, school drama, or teenage romance. Everything changes when she starts attending Pine Ridge High under the fake name Delaney Davis. She wants a fresh start, but hiding her real identity quickly becomes much harder than she expected.
Delaney is not an ordinary new student. She is a talented soccer player who wants to join the school team, even though Pine Ridge does not have a girls' soccer program. Her skill gives her the chance to try out for the boys' team, but the players are not happy about it. The strongest resistance comes from Colton Grimes, the team captain. He is confident, competitive, stubborn, and completely sure that Delaney does not belong on his field.
From their first meetings, Delaney and Colton challenge each other at every step. Their arguments soon turn into a fierce rivalry, both on and off the soccer field. Delaney refuses to let Colton control her, while Colton slowly realizes that she may be one of the best players he has ever faced. Their constant competition creates strong romantic tension, especially when anger begins to mix with attraction.
Their relationship becomes even more complicated when Colton suggests a fake dating deal. He needs help with his grades because his academic problems could destroy his chance at a college soccer scholarship. Delaney, meanwhile, is facing bullying from other students, especially Colton's jealous ex-girlfriend Vanessa. Pretending to be Colton's girlfriend could give Delaney protection, while tutoring him could help save his future. The plan sounds simple, but their feelings are anything but fake.
Behind the romance is a much bigger conflict connected to Maria Grimes Park, the soccer field where the team trains and plays. The field was named after Colton's late mother and means everything to him. However, Delaney's mother, Mayor Francesca De Vere, plans to sell the land for development. Colton strongly hates the mayor for threatening his mother's legacy, without knowing that the girl he is falling for is actually her daughter.
Delaney is also carrying another dangerous secret. She has a heart condition connected to the same illness that killed her father, a professional soccer player. Her mother is terrified that soccer could put Delaney's life at risk and tries to stop her from playing. For Delaney, however, soccer is more than a sport. It is where she feels closest to her father and where she feels most alive.
Set between the halls of Pine Ridge High, crowded teenage parties, family homes, hospital rooms, and the emotionally important Maria Grimes soccer field, the story mixes sports romance, enemies-to-lovers tension, fake dating, secret identity, family drama, jealousy, bullying, and forbidden attraction. As Delaney fights for her place on the team, Colton fights for his future, and both struggle with family pain and hidden truths, their growing connection becomes harder to ignore.
At its heart, this is a story about two young people learning to trust each other while everything around them pushes them apart. Their romance grows through competition, secrets, emotional wounds, and the shared dream of building a life beyond the limits others have placed on them.
