Lily Waters is a brilliant university student who has spent most of her young life being responsible. After losing her parents, she becomes the main support for her sixteen-year-old brother, Noel. Between studying, protecting her family, and dealing with the debts her parents left behind, Lily has never had much time to simply enjoy being young. Her private Bucket List is filled with everything she has missed: going to parties, riding a motorcycle, having her first kiss, breaking a few rules, traveling, and finally learning how to be happy.

Her quiet routine changes when she crosses paths with Jake Roberts, the feared and arrogant captain of the university baseball team. Jake needs to improve his literature grade or risk losing his place in baseball, so he makes Lily an unusual offer: she will tutor him, and he will help her complete her Bucket List. Their deal begins with constant arguments, teasing, challenges, and a battle over who is really in control.
